DESCRIPTION:This panel discussion will discuss Cultural Responses to Labor Conflicts in the Northern Anthracite Field. \nThe featured speakers are Sarah Piccini\, speaking about the 1871 strike in Scranton\, Lucia Dailey\, speaking about the 1877 strike in Scranton\, Michael Knies\, speaking on the 1912 strike in Luzerne & Lackawanna Counties\, and Robert Wolensky\, speaking about the 1928 strike in the Greater Pittston Area. The discussion will explore strikes\, shutdowns\, labor actions\, and bitter and violent conflicts that occurred in the Anthracite region from the 1870s to 1928 that had profound implications for the dangerous working conditions below ground and cultural implications for working people above ground. This panel discussion will be moderated by Retired Site Administrator\, Chester Kulesa.
