SUMMARY:Mine Rescue Day
DESCRIPTION:Step into the boots of a mine rescuer and experience how anthracite miners responded to danger and disaster underground. Splint bones\, patch skulls\, mix folk remedies\, and get up close to rescue equipment at a special “touch-a-truck” with Scranton and Taylor Fire Departments.\n\n\n\nReal doctors\, first responders\, and health professionals will explore mine rescue history at stations throughout the museum. We’ll have rarely seen artifacts and historic films from our medical collections on display for one day only.\n\n\nMine Rescue Day is suitable for all ages and is included with regular museum admission. \n\n\n\n1PM – Join Dr. Bill Conlogue (Marywood) for a presentation on worker’s compensation and emergency relief in the wake of the 1911 Pancoast Colliery fire. Drawing on compensation ledgers in our collections\, Dr. Conlogue shows how widows and orphans found means of support after this destructive mine disaster.\n\n\n\nPre-Registration Encouraged!\nEnter your name and number of guests to let us know you’re coming!
