Preservation Workshop – Girl Scout Items & Textiles

September 22, 2018

Free

Do you have family heirlooms that you are concerned about preserving? Were you or was someone in your family a Girl Scout? Do you have unidentified memorabilia you’re curious about? A treasured fabric item you’re concerned about cleaning? Come to the Anthracite Heritage Museum to learn about best practices from Mary Winslow and Brenda Long, members of the Girl Scouts Heart of PA Archives Committee. It will be a great afternoon of learning and preserving!

The workshop will be geared toward Girl Scout memorabilia, but the information will be applicable to any textile preservation endeavor. The workshop is designed to help adults identify and date items, learn recommended ways to safely clean, store, or display fabric heirlooms. If you were a former Girl Scout or have family members who were and wish to preserve a uniform, badge sash, or any other item, Mary and Brenda can help you not only preserve the items, but also help you date and contextualize them according to official Girl Scout history.

Please contact the Museum for more information! If you are interested in a workshop for current Girl Scouts, please contact the Museum for Mary & Brenda’s information.
