Professors Robert Wolensky and Thomas Mackaman will give a presentation about their new manuscript “Anthracite Insurgents.”
The volume deals with labor-management, labor-labor, and labor-government conflict in the northern anthracite coalfield (the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton areas). A particular focus is on a newly formed labor union, the United Anthracite Miners of Pennsylvania (1933-1935), which challenged both the coal companies and John L. Lewis and the United Mineworkers of America. The book is currently under review by Penn State University Press.
